September Newsletter
Hello Rhys here,
As we speak schedules should have gone out for our forthcoming show
This is to be held as usual at Pentwyn Leisure Centre Cardiff
Date 1/11/09
Judge Mr Roy Nunn
entries close 5th October
Hopefully many of you will enter despite it being later than usual this year.
There have been mentions in both the dog papers that the health survey regarding cruciate ligaments should be completed and sent to Pauline ASAP.
Hopefully most of our members will already have sent theirs in but there is still time for everyone else to participate.
It is to be remembered that Accredited breeders have signed an agreement to participate in all health surveys for their breed so each and everyone who is accredited MUST comply!!
the survey is available to download still on our downloads page
Please also note the information available on this site about the Chow Chow club's 115 years anniversary event for next year.
Please note too that the Breed Standard for the Chow Chow has now been finalised and the updated version which applies from 1/10/09 will be on this site.
Although there are some changes it is better than the proposed and in some aspects better than the original (in my opinion) it depicts a chow in a very straightforward manner which should make it easier for all rounder's to adhere to. It is especially encouraging to see a mention made as to correct leg length which hopefully will encourage people to strive to breed and show actually "square" dogs.
The movement was always going to be the hardest part to agree on. Some chowists did not want the word "stilted" removed as they felt it fundamental to the chow as we know it yet the Kennel Club seemed to particularly want to avoid this word. The new wording (which as I told you in a previous newsletter took the longest amount of time for the people at the extraordinary meeting called by the breed council for people to agree on) seems to depict the chow with correct movement rather well and is, in fact, clearer than before as everyone can picture a pendulum where as stilted may not be so clear.
This new standard will of course be in force at our show.
All for now
